OnePlus and Oppo Merge
R&D Team
OnePlus has officially announced that it will merge its research and development (R&D) team with Oppo. The two companies have often been embroiled in controversies over similar-looking phones, which are also a by-product from the same group, BBK Electronics.
In an official Android Authority statement it said:
To better maximize resources and further position OnePlus for growth, we are in the process of further integrating some R&D capabilities within OPLUS, our long-term investor. OnePlus will continue operating independently and working to deliver the best possible user experience for existing and future OnePlus users.
For those who are unaware, OPLUS has a majority stake in three companies – Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme.OnePlus will continue to operate independently, working to provide the best possible user experience to existing and future OnePlus users. "
Interestingly, the official statement mentions OnePlus a group of researchers looking after OnePlus, Oppo and Realme. It is not surprising that OnePlus has announced the integration of its research and development team into Oppo, as the former uses Oppo's supply chain resources to manufacture its phones. With this integration, we can see three companies: Oppo, Realme and OnePlus working together to develop technology for upcoming phones.
In 2020, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau announced that he had assumed additional responsibility for the appointment as Senior Vice President and Chief Product Experience Officer of the one plus Investor Group. During that time, Lau is said to have contributed to product development and planning and remains CEO at OnePlus.
A special DoNews report brought news of an R&D merger between Oppo and OnePlus, before OnePlus released an official statement citing sources. According to the report, new employees will be hired by OPPO on the research and development team, not OnePlus. The report states, "This is similar to the relationship between Xiaomi and Redmi who use the same R&D system."
However OnePlus has stated that it is an independent brand. But it remains to be seen how the company can take advantage of this merger.
